When the golf
course was built, Vaille, Midway and Norgren Lakes were connected by storm
pipes. There were no creeks connecting them. Over time, as the neighborhood was
developed and more impermeable landscapes were installed, the amount of storm
water that entered the club grew.
After 30 years or
so, those storm pipes began to fail and caused drainage issues on the 4th
hole. In the year 2000, the old storm
pipe was abandoned connecting Vaille & Midway lake and the creek was
constructed.
Numerous storm
flows later we are left with what we see today. Today’s creek was not
constructed to handle the storm flows of today. Lots of sediment has moved into
Midway Lake and the creek is at a much lower elevation than it was originally
constructed. Exposed today are many old drain and irrigation parts as well as a
60” Denver Water mainline exposed. We have lost numerous sprinkler heads along
most of our shoreline and creek banks.
The creek gets
moved to the west for various reasons, elevation being the most important to
manage flows. The mouth of the creek remains in the same location.
Three new bridges
are proposed. One for the 3rd hole, one for the 4th hole
and a walking bridge for those who need it on 4 as well. These bridges will be
properly designed and constructed to last for many years.
This part of the
project will have the most aesthetic value as well. The channel will widen and
provide more visual appeal especially from the 4th tee. There will
be numerous drop structures and small pools along the creek to slow the water
down as it meanders through the course.
Many dedicated
hours have been spent by staff and members on this design. Final surveys are
being done so we can move toward a 90% design and start the permit process. We
can also begin getting contractor pricing.
