Norgren Lake & #5 Improvements

Norgren Lake (pond between 4 & 6) is the most critical area for improvement on the property. We will see changes that include a new dam, expanded lake and bank stabilization. On the west end of the lake we will expand to balance the amount of surface water lost from Vaille Lake. We need to maintain the same amount of surface area from pre to post construction. For golfers this will threaten tee shots on 6 that move left.

The dam to the south end of the lake is clearly the most important area for improvement. Norgren Lake is our largest lake and our irrigation supply is pumped from this body of water. We have a tree lined earthen dam and the outlet goes through the middle of the dam. There is some significant erosion on both sides of the dam that is very concerning. Any compromise to this dam will hinder us from irrigating the 225 acres of the property. The plan consists of rebuilding an earthen dam and creating more support and structure. Water exiting the dam will move through the northeast corner and be piped around toward Sheridan Blvd.

We’ll finish addressing any erosion with the proper bank stabilization.

The committee explored several options with water crossing #5 and chose to keep water in pipe. The main reason is because water is not always present and an open channel would frequently remain dry. After a nightly irrigation cycle, it takes time to refill Norgren Lake before spilling over to the cemetery. Other reasons keeping the water in pipe are related to the permit process, costs to maintain and playability.

Currently we are working on the final design to present to the city to begin the permit process. We expect this to take a year before we can begin construction. This project will require a membership vote for approval to move forward. Expect to hear more in the coming weeks.
