Myth #2: The golf course will be closed for three
years?
Truth: Absolutely not, golf will always be available
during a renovation, 27 holes of golf provides a wonderful advantage to
maintaining access to golf for members. An 18-hole course renovation can be
accomplished in 7-9 months. The plan for the Maxwell Course is to close 9 holes
in July then close the remaining 9 holes in August. The bulk of the work is
done by the New Year. During the winter months it would remain closed to
preserve the asset until the growing season arrives. The course would re-open
in spring (May, weather depending) when the course is healthy enough to handle
stress.
The Pfluger closure and scope of work continues to be
discussed at the committee level after member feedback. Once contractor pricing
comes back, final decisions will be made. However, a 9 Hole renovation closure
would consist of a similar timeline. Close in August and re-open in spring.
When handling plant material such as turfgrass, it is vital
that this work happens during the growing season, plants require time to
recuperate and heal before the onset of play and stress. This sort of construction
is very difficult to accomplish effectively in the winter months and weather
conditions will create delays and waste time and money.
If it is decided to renovate the Maxwell Course over two
seasons we would experience a closure from August to May for two years.
Nonetheless, golf will always be available during a renovation.
