Japanese Beetles

They're here. Adults have begun to emerge and will begin mating and egg laying through August. The property has been applied with a preventative insecticide once again this year.

We have partnered again with an independent researcher to study Japanese Beetles. Our research area is next to the 9th tee on the Pfluger. This year we are looking at some different approaches to managing their larvae (grubs) which is the most dangerous to turfgrass. Timing and product amounts are among the key factors this year.

Lures have been put out around the research plots to attract the beetles to the plots. We ask that they please be left alone.

Our preventative applications on the property are done with Acelepryn which we have seen excellent results with over the years. This product targets the new eggs that are coming over the next few weeks.

The adults do not harm the grass, but they do like to feed on vines, roses, flowering trees and other ornamentals. After the eggs are laid, the grubs feed on grass roots and we begin to see that damage in September.
