This Week In Grounds

This week we hired Total Turf Services, who constructed our new practice facility, to assist with tree stump removal from last month's wind storm. They are using their excavator to remove the stump and will use our stockpile of soil on site to fill the holes. They will use a compacter to prevent settling and prepare for sod.

On Monday we began with the stumps around the driving range and behind the 17th green. Tuesday we finished 17 and moved to the chipping green and the 2nd tee. The 15th green is on track for Wednesday and then we will move to the 8th hole, maintenance facility and then the 7th green on the Pfluger. This should be a two week project. Sod will be scheduled before September and once we have more irrigation water available.

It is adult Japanese Beetle season. It is still a little early, but it does look like populations are lower than in the three previous years. We have been using Acelepryn for the past three seasons throughout the property. This pollinator friendly product does a fantastic job with eliminating the insect after laying eggs.

Also this week we began spiking fairways to open up the soil for oxygen, relieve compaction and allow avenues for water to enter the soil. A soil conditioner was applied after the spiking and irrigated into the soil profile.
