Tree Damage

The past week, Mother Nature threw us yet another curve ball with very high winds and quite the mess. We saw 80-100 mph winds that tore a path through the club from the 13th fairway and tennis straight through toward the maintenance facility near the 8th hole.

We had to close the course for 5 days while the staff (and members) helped to clean up plenty of tree debris. We had two tree companies on site to help with cutting tree damage. All in all we had 27 trees fall over or break. Two more trees received so much damage that the Green Committee decided that they should be removed.

One of the reasons why we were closed for so long was due to the amount of broken limbs hanging in trees. We spent two days looking into every tree on the property to see if there were any "widow makers" hanging around.

Tennis: We lost two trees at tennis. We had the top of a maple tree break and land on a court. We sustained a crack in the concrete which is pretty amazing. We also had wind damage to the fences on courts 2,6 & 12.

Driving Range: We lost three trees on the driving range. Two were in the rear. This will be an area we explore for new plantings. I heard an interesting idea to place another target green in the void in the back right of the range. Even though that would be fun, it would increase the risk of balls getting into 16 fairway.

Pfluger:  We only lost one tree on the Pfluger. It was a Rocky Mountain Juniper between 7 green and 8 tee next to the weather shelter. Though junipers may not be the prettiest tree on the property, but they are native to Colorado and the region. I always have trouble losing an original tree to the property

Maxwell: We lost 20 trees on the 18 holes course. If you are keeping track, we lost one tree at the shop for 27. The biggest losses are from the 13th fairway across to 17 green. We lost old pines and spruces, large locusts and even a couple of smaller trees up on top of 2 tee. Last Sunday we put the drone up in the air to get a better look at the damage.
