June Water Update

Our last snow event was on April 16th and things were looking good for the season with water. Ever since it has been warm, windy and dry and the snow pack has disappeared.

It is normal for the middle of June for us to move to storage water to supplement our river flows for ample irrigation water. What is not normal, is the level of Bear Creek. Bear Creek is the main driver of the Warrior Ditch (which enters the property on holes 9 & 10). It is running about 100 cfs lower than the 102 year historical average. Bear creek levels at the gauge where we take water for the club is at 13 cfs.

We are beginning to flirt with not having any water available in the ditch without some timely storms. The Warrior Ditch accounts for 2/3rds of the club's irrigation water. Without some rainfall we will have to be strategic with our irrigation needs on the property.

We have begun taking storage water to meet our needs. All in all, if we are to pace ourselves on storage water for the remainder of the growing season it will run out in early October. We will get some storms that will allow us to halt storage water  and extend our season. Timely rainfall also raises river levels to where we can capture more river water.

Leasing water can be an option but they can be very difficult to come by and it is only temporary.

I will continue to blog about water updates as needed.
