Winter Water and Traffic Management

Now that carts are available it is time to think about dry turf and needing to water. There is still a significant amount of water in the soil still, but there are many high points that need attention. Bunker banks, collars and south facing slopes are in need of some hydrating soon.

Since early December we have been watering many of the new trees on a regular basis. This week we applied a transfilm to the canopies of some evergreen trees to reduce evaporation.

Over the past two weeks we spent time watering the new greens as they are showing signs of drought and wear stress. Remember, these greens are still considered babies in the turf world and will need some TLC from time to time.

On the large putting green we will be installing netting on the green to manage traffic stress. With 24,000 sq.ft. of putting space there will still be plenty of area to practice. This will be a loose netting aimed to keep foot traffic away only. It is not intended to encourage growth. It is much too early for that now. We will shuffle the netting around as needed depending on wear stress.
