6 Green Cart Path Project

Last week we started renovating the cart path area at 6 green. We are correcting a few problems in this location.

First, we are removing some mounds that were never a part of the original design of the golf course. This is common with older golf courses to make subtle changes. Some changes work, others don't. This style of mounding is uncharacteristic of this age of a golf course and there is no mound theme on the property.

The mounding compounds cart traffic to one specific area which is why the turf is worn out to the left of the mounds. Removing the mounds allows traffic to spread out, correct drainage and improve turf health. The trees are really maturing in this area and they provide challenge for golfers who miss the approach right.

Most of the sod in this area can be saved. We put some tarps down before moving the sod to keep clean and neat. We placed the sod in the shade to prevent drying out in the winter.

Once the area is regraded and weather looks good to replace we will put all of the sod back.

Our new skid steer is getting after removing some of the old path. We used the soil from the old mounds to fill in where the path used to be located.

We may have to bring in some new soil before sodding.

The area does require some hand work to pick up old sod and level out. Once all the soil is in place we will tamp out to prevent settling in the future.

A black plastic cover is used to keep some heat in the soil so we can return to the area earlier the next day.

If the overnight temperatures are warm enough we can aim to finish this project by the end of the week.
