Timing

This week, the most important application is being made to greens for the 2020 golf season. Research has shown that a growth regulator specific to prohibiting seed development on poa annua is highly beneficial when initial applications are made in the fall.

Seed heads on these poa greens are about as brutal as I have ever seen. They create real difficult ball roll and a spongy surface. We have applied this product religiously for the last three seasons and we have witnessed great success.

Tuesday we applied the Pfluger Course and Wednesday we will apply to the Maxwell Course.

We have two winter plant protectant applications going out this fall/early winter for snow mold. The first has already been applied. The second application is weather dependent, but usually in December. A green pigment is used with this application. We see tremendous success with this product, especially during the drier winters as it acts as a stress guard with lots of winter golf.

New this year, we will be experimenting with some fall herbicide applications. There are some new products that work better in the cold weather and are able to kill broadleaf weeds before next spring. The timing of this application couldn't be better as the golf course sees less traffic this time of year and we can provide more effective application.
