Hydraulic Leak

What most turf managers fear is a hydraulic oil leak. Even worse on a green. It happened today on 17 green. The first time in 20 years on this property.

Fortunately we had our best operator on the machine. This was a major leak and it could have been worse.

This area is dead. Tomorrow morning we will replace the sod from our nursery green on 8. We should have enough time before the first group to have it completed.

Apparently the small putting green was a practice run for repairing green sod as the crew is in top form to complete the job.

It will look a little off for sometime but fortunately the new sod will give a jump start to that green with our new bent grass.

Seeding is not an option due to the amount of oil and the time of year. I don’t see much of a problem with playability. It will be more cosmetic for some time.

Normally this time of year we manage greens with riding mowers due to less staff or the need for staff elsewhere on the property. It is a rare occurrence, especially under the careful eye of Brian, our equipment manager.

This is a major reason to have a healthy nursery green to maintain playability.
