Grub Damage

You may have noticed some areas of the course that are damaged in the rough. This is the result of the Japanese Beetles.

They are in the grub stage now and feeding on grass roots. The excessive damage you see now is the act of raccoons or skunks coming out for a midnight snack.

Treating damage at this point is almost too late. You might be able to kill some grubs but they are large enough now that they are harder and harder to manage. Feeding for them is almost over if the weather ever gets cold. By October, they begin to dive down to warmer and more consistent soil temperatures and go dormant for the winter.

Our success rate on our spring application for grubs is excellent. You are noticing areas near the pond on 9 because we can not apply the insecticide near water. So we knew this could be a problem and it is a great sign that our investment works on the rest of the property.

On the 9 hole course we used a different product and are seeing mixed results. This will help us plan better for next season.
