Topdressing

This week we topped greens off with a light sand topdress. This hasn't been done in over a month due to all of the tournaments. We did notice speeds pick up some as the sand helps to smooth out the surface. Sand fills in old ball marks and any other imperfections in the green.

Topdressing greens is the single most important job that can be performed for having great greens. Sand dilutes thatch buildup, keeps the surface firm and allows for better root development and drainage.

We take a break from mowing for a couple of days after applying sand. Brushing and heavy irrigation cycles assist with getting particles down into the canopy and it reduces the dulling of mower blades.

We continue with rolling greens to keep them performing at their best.
