Revisit Japanese Beetles

I continue to receive many questions about whether or not to apply for Japanese Beetles. If you notice any beetle activity near your property then you most certainly apply.

Eggs have been laid and soon will turn to grubs. Over the next three weeks we will see grubs present chewing on grass roots.

The adult stage is coming to an end and you should notice little to no more feeding on plants.

If you have applied Chlorantraniliprole (Acelepryn) or Imidacloprid (Merit) and followed the label for grubs, you are protected.

If you have yet to apply an insecticide, be prepared for damage to your grass. Typically damage shows up with 10-12 grubs per sq.ft. The turf may look dry. Go ahead and grab a section of grass and pull it back. If you see something similar to the photo above, you need to be treating for grubs. There are many products available for this stage. Please read and follow the label carefully. If not used correctly you could damage non-target insects, pets and even children.

Japanese beetles are here to stay. Be prepared each year to battle this insect. Every application helps to keep populations way down and keep damage to a minimum.
