Wildflowers

The horticulture staff has been doing a great job this year. Our latest project is rehabilitating the wildflower area along the drive lane at the short game green.

We have been battling a lot of weeds this year and it has been difficult establishing new plants. With all of this heat, now is a great time to work on next years flowers.

Black plastic has been installed to smother and heat up the soil to manage weeds. The black plastic method is safer alternative to pesticides or fire. Smothering kills the existing plants since they will receive no sunlight. The heat will contribute to killing off any weed seed that remains in the soil.

In the fall we can remove the tarp and begin seeding a new crop for next year. We aim to seed and plant perennial flowers for continued success year after year.
