Stumbling Into Spring

Well Spring is here. We are seeing snow days and warm days, but mostly cloudy and still cool temperatures. We have been tracking soil temperatures and we have not climbed out of the 50's just yet.

Spring bulbs are in bloom for Easter. But the grass for the most part has yet to take off growing. This is normal for this time of year, but with all the late winter snow, we are certainly ready for warmer temperatures.

Recovery from aerification is well on its way and will continue to do so with the rise in soil temperatures.

The newly renovated areas are on target to open on Friday May 24th. We are excited to open everything including the putting greens, practice range, practice bunkers and the short game area.

The new green is coming along really well. Pictured here is our intern Sean from Michigan State University. He is applying granular fertilizer for growth and development on the large putting green. We are slowly dropping the height of cut on a weekly basis. We are on target to hit our mowing height for the season by mid May.

Weekly topdressing on a new green helps to smooth out any imperfections as plants develop. I have been thoroughly impressed by the progression and maturity of this turfgrass variety, then again it is one of the reasons that we chose Pure Distinction. This plant continues to amaze me.
