This was the scene after the bomb cyclone last week. The winds took two large pine trees from the property. Overall, the amount of tree work that has been done over the years has paid off from the high winds. After these two trees we only had small branches on the ground.
One tree was located near the drive lane in the parking lot and the other was at the 13th tee.
The pine at 13 tee had a big impact on seed germination on the new green this past fall. I thought for a while that it may need to come out due to the amount of shade on the green but wanted to give it a little more time to review. That area of the green was the slowest to germinate. Apparently Mother Nature didn't like it's proximity to the green either.
Here is the tough part. The next pine tree adjacent to the one that fell was a problem too. This tree not only would cast shade on the green, but since it was so close to the neighboring tree, the foliage could never develop and was bare on the west side of the tree and not aesthetically pleasing. With a tree this age (approximately 50-60 years old) It would never recover and look good.
The third pine was far enough apart and looks great. Plus the green has more sunshine for development. In the end we all benefit.
This is the tree that fell near the west drive lane toward Bogies. This now opens up a little more area for the short game green.
The tree was taken out on Monday.
