Topdressing Fairways

Sand topdressing fairways is something that has been done on this property for more than 10 years now. The benefits are endless. We apply a heavy dressing in the fall after the plants have stopped growing. Sand can create a lot of problems to cutting units so this timing assists with mower maintenance. Sand helps fills divots, assists with leveling out small imperfections in the fairway. Adding to the soil profile also improves drainage and rooting for the upcoming season. Sand also helps protect the plants in the winter. Since the plants are no longer growing, it protects the crown of the plants from traffic stress throughout dormancy. As the plant breaks through dormancy in the spring, the plants grow through the sand layer.
