Day 35 - Friday, September 14, 2018

Today was a big day to seed the driving range. The irrigation system is back up and running. With the addition of soil to build the target greens many of the irrigation lines needed to be re-installed and sprinklers replaced. We pulled a lot of this pipe to speed up the process.

Once the irrigation was final it was time to seed. The green tops are bentgrass and need some extra love and care to prepare the seed bed. Pictured here is Calcium, humates and micronutrients to amend the soil. When grass is planted on sand, it doesn't have the proper nutrients for plant growth at the beginning.

After the bentrgass green tops were dropped seeded, it was time to seed the remaining areas for the fairway and rough. We used our large spreader to disperse the ryegrass seed.

Once seeded, we use a sand pro with a turf tire for traction and to dimple the seed into the soil for a better growing environment. Seeding slopes requires care and precision with the pre and post plant process. Once seeded, irrigation heads should run at low run times but very frequently. Sprinklers are running for 3-4 minutes at a time for up to 9 times a day. Since the turf has no roots, deep watering is not needed. We must balance the requirement to keep seed wet to germinate, but we don't need it to wash away from too much water.  The dry weather could not be any better for this grown in.

Today is the last day for concrete. The crew started at 6am and were complete by the time the first group of golfers showed up.

Once the concrete is set up enough to walk on they will saw cut all of the joints.

A temporary path is made for golfers and walkers. We anticipate the paths to open on Tuesday next week.
