Day 33, Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Swapping sod is a common practice here. We limit “store bought sod” because it takes a long time to match what is on site. Since the range is closed until spring, stealing it from here makes sense because we can always recuperate in time for opening by growing it in from seed.

Even though we are seeding most of the project area, sod is require for slopes. It also helps from washouts coming from cart path run off. Once everything is grown in we worry less about water run off as everything drains.

More detail work cleaning up cart paths so we can open them soon. All debris must be picked up so it does not contaminate the newly seeded areas.

It’s also time to recuperate worn out areas around the construction site. This has been the most asked question during the project. Which for us grass growers is the most fun challenge of all.

Today we overseeded those areas and aerified to break up compaction. We are aiming to open cart paths next week so we will have a few days for golfers to work that seed into the soil properly to assist with the germination process.

We began the day with another seeding on the green. It has been 13 days since it was first seeded. We are very happy with germination so far, however as the window closes on the year for seed germination, we wanted to get more out sooner.

Some thin areas like the top of mounds take a little more time to develop seed. We are also noticing that the south east corner of the green between 13 tee and the old splash bar is slower because it lacks morning sun from all of the trees at 13 tee.

Of course once we were done seeding, we rolled the green one more time to get the seed into the soil and the roll will help smooth things out prior to mowing next week. We may have more rolls into the green before mowing.
