Day 8 - Tuesday, August 14, 2018

Tuesday we spent more time on the short game area as we began shaping the new green. The sod from that area is removed and is being buried not only to save on hauling, but the soil we remove is used to build the green base and shape the features around the green.

This is the view from the bottom of the slope up toward the green. The goal is to create a green similar to the Maxwell greens found on the golf courses to practice pitch shots.

Cart path staking took place today as we aim to start pouring cart path next week. Some more modifications behind 18 green need to be made, but overall we get a great look at traffic patterns and we can make some final adjustments to paths as needed. Grading and road base placement are the next steps to ensure proper drainage throughout the area. Curbing on the cart path is critical for traffic and water management.

Continued shaping on the putting green takes place. The contractor is now bringing in more soil as directed by Urbina to create those Maxwell inside rolls of the green.

Irrigation valves are installed for the small putting green. There are two zones for the green and three zones for the surrounding grass. One valves is for a quick coupler for handwater access. On the other side of the green there are more valves for flowers and ornamental beds too.

The trench is being prepared to backfill. The lines are flushed and pressurized before tuning on the valves to test the sprinklers.

Below is a photo of the lateral line feeding the small putting green. This line is in a sleeve under the future cart path leading back to the new mainline behind the 12th green. The 9 wires will control valves for the green, surrounding turf and flower beds.

Of course before wrapping up for the day, Mother Nature dropped .6" of rain and hail on the project. No big concern, fortunately we have not seeded the green yet. On the plus side we get a great look at the slopes of the green and determine where drains are needed.

Here we get another look on the south side of the putting green/course for future drainage. There is quite a bit of movement in this green. Excitement is building.
