Day 7 - Monday, August 13, 2018

During the green construction it is important to remove any material under the green that might compromise the base. Tree trunks, rocks and old pipe. Pictured here are the old drain lines that were installed in 2007. They were nice while they lasted. The new green will have plenty of new drainage.

Today we had Mile Hi Tree back out to trim the canopy of the Ash tree at the bag room. There was plenty of dead wood and some broken branches that needed to be cleaned up. As the old saying goes, "Prune to Bloom"

Our rough mower took to the short game area to mow down the limits of disturbance for the new green and bunker. The sod will be stripped and buried. The soil will be used to construct the new green and features.

The mounds behind the 18th green are being modified to provide separation from the practice areas and the cart staging area.

Transits are used to measure grade for drainage and movement in the green.

Jim Urbina is onsite today and is beginning to shape the features in the new green. This process will take a few days to get right.Once the features are complete on the bottom of the green, then we can install the drains and the greens mix.

A smart level is used to measure slope to ensure adequate drainage.

The greens mix is being delivered all week. The Bogies parking lot has been a busy place and it will continue to be that way through the rest of the month. The mix has been tested to meet standards for proper turfgrass growth. The USGA sets these standards that allows the green to be firm, yet allow for proper air and water holding capacity for root development. This soil is 90% sand and 10% organic matter for better establishment from seed and poa cores. This soil paired with adequate subsurface and surface drainage will allow us to have strong roots to handle the amount of traffic expected on this green.
