Day 4 - Thursday, August 9, 2018

More mainline trench on the 13th hole. This line is to support the new green and to feed the clubhouse, pool and tennis with irrigation. This replaces the old abandoned line that fed the club grounds. This is another 4" HDPE mainline. While the irrigation is down during the install we have to pull a lot of hose to hand water existing turf in the area.

Once the putting green turf was stripped, the dozer pushes the old mix to the side to be used as a growing medium around the new green. There is plenty of good organic material and nutrients in this soil and will get put to good use.

The shaping of the new green is being started. The goal is to get the new green cavity to within 2" of grade for Jim Urbina to work with when he arrives on site next week. Any extra soil is being placed at the back of the driving range to be used for the new target greens later this month.

Our intern CJ is applying a concoction of fertilizer, wetting agent and plant growth hormones to the sod on plastic to survive the warm and dry days. The key is to keep the sod wet, so irrigation will run periodically throughout each day.

The biggest difference between this new green and the greens on the golf course is that this green will have adequate drainage. The existing greens have post construction drains, which are real nice and were certainly worth the investment. However, starting from scratch and with years of research we can head off future problems by installing proper drainage from the start. Placement of the drain lines is very important for long term success. I will discuss more about this as the project moves along.
