Day 3 - Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Wednesday morning started with reviving the old green. In order to match the new green putting surface to the existing greens we are taking cores samples of the old green and will use them during the seeding process for the new green. This way we can maintain many of the same poa plants in the putting surface.

After aerfiying 6 times on the green we then sod cut the surface. We collected most of these sod scraps and they can also be used for the seeding of the new green. We will also broadcast bentgrass seed to round out the putting surface. In the first couple of seasons the surface will be dominated by bentgrass, in time poa will adapt as it always does to the new environment.

The cores of poa are being stored at the maintenance facility and carefully monitored. We have tents to shade them from the hot August sun. They will be watered daily and turned over to encourage air movement.

More mainline progression behind the 18th green. There are tree roots and old irrigation laterals that we need to be careful of while trenching. Some of the wires and lines can be saved. Others are just abandoned if we have new irrigation planned for certain areas. The large chunks you see is shale, not rock, though it may as well be. This is our native soil. Some areas are better than others. This soil is broken down or removed before returning to the trench.
