Day 14 - Tuesday, August 21, 2018

Now things are happening as we begin floating the top of the green. Kyle (2nd Assistant Superintendent) is working closely with Jim to shape the top. We used 4 different attachments on the 3-wheel unit to arrive at our desired outcome. We use a rake to rough shape the green. Then a metal bar is used to compact the mix. Finally two different drag mats are used to arrive at the final grade.

Irrigation continues to be installed around the green. We have 11 sprinklers around the green and 3 in the green to cover all 22,000 sq.ft.

Today we poured a sample cart path to trial some finishes. The middle is the color of the new cart path for the property. The name of the color is Canyon which is a light red color. It blends in nice with the green grass and is not as bright as the regular concrete color. The border is a stamped concrete. We are determining different finishes for the cart staging area.

The first step for the target greens is to rough up the old sod and dispose of it. Some of the soil from the old greens is being used for the new greens.

Below you see some irrigation detail going into the ground. The black pipe supplies water. The white pipe is called the swing joint which allows the sprinkler to handle the weight of mowers at the surface. Wire goes to the sprinkler which operates a solenoid to open and close the valve built into the sprinkler. The wire goes back to the field satellite which then connects each sprinkler to the central computer back at the maintenance facility.

The top of every sprinkler is set to grade. But we also use a level on each head to achieve the best distribution uniformity with the sprinklers.
