Snow mold

As you can see some snow continues to linger in shady areas. With two months of cover gray snow mold has set in. Mostly what you see is that the leaf tissue has died off, but if you brush your hand through the infected area it is green down below.

The crown of the plant is still alive and well. I dealt with this a lot up in the Vail Valley as you could imagine.

Prolonged snow cover is rare in Denver. Warm temperatures, aerification, fertilizer, warmer soil temperatures and some grooming and these plants will grow right out of the damaged areas.
