Field Turf

The only grass anyone around here anyone will care about this week is in Santa Clara, California on Sunday afternoon. The sports turfgrass industry is a strong group that uses much of the same technology and research as the golf industry to master their trade.

One benefit to a playing field is that it can and frequently does get replaced for large events, especially the Super Bowl. Golf courses do not have this luxury, but then again we don't have 300 pound lineman running around.

Levi's Stadium has struggled with turf conditions since it has opened, but fortunately for both teams the NFL takes the "big game" kind of serious with field playing conditions. For a number of years now they have replaced the natural field surface prior to the Super Bowl. Click here for a great article on the field. The goal for any turf manager following a game is that the story was not about the grass.
