Fall Fertilization

 

Now is the time to start preparing for fall fertilizer applications. It is important that turf goes into winter healthy and dormant. Turf damage in the winter is difficult to overcome because you have to wait until spring to recover. 

We usually wait until the first frost and when the plants begin to harden off for the season. We don't want to push a lot of growth this time of year but we want to encourage health. Healthy turf limits the amount of weeds in turf and it help protect against winter desiccation and snow and ice damage. Adding fertilizer to the soil helps with spring green up too.
