Denver Christian Update

The Denver Christian Schools is beginning its second season to the west of the club. Over the next couple of weeks they have begun their next phase with the property. We have a vested interest with this portion of their renovation due to our irrigation ditch.

The Ft. Logan and Warrior Ditch goes through the north portion of the property. For many years this cottonwood lined, open ditch has been a maintenance issue, not to mention a safety hazard for Pinehurst and Colorado Academy for their irrigation water.

Today the ditch area looks like this...

It's quite a shock at first, but improvements are on the way. Since Pinehurst and Colorado Academy manage the Ft. Logan Ditch Co. we have been in talks with Denver Christian about the project over the past year.

The first step is to move the ditch and put it all in pipe. This limits water loss from evaporation and those thirsty cottonwoods. Also, during this process we will be separating storm water from ditch water. Not only does this prevent contamination, but it also prevents flooding around the 10th tee. The new ditch construction will not conflict with flows for 2015 and will be re-aligned and completed for the spring of 2016.

The next phase following the ditch re-alignment will be the home for new athletic fields. The plan for the football field is to be synthetic turf, while the baseball field will be a natural surface. The new ditch and easement will go around the baseball field and under the football field. Manholes are placed accordingly to access the pipeline for maintenance.

The Ft. Logan Ditch Company has worked with the City of Lakewood, Denver Christian Schools lawyers and engineers to ensure the ditch movement goes smooth and does not negatively impact Pinehurst and Colorado Academy. The School has been great to work with so far and we plan to continue a great relationship with them for years to come. We are excited to see the improvements of this property.
