Training: Chainsaw Safety

Today we discussed chainsaw safety with the staff. This time of year is a busy time for pruning and tree removal. We take safety in all areas of golf course maintenance seriously, but when it comes to tree pruning, you can not over train your staff.

Bobbi put together a great presentation and walked us through the anatomy of a chainsaw. Most times we accomplish tree care while the golf courses are closed. However, there may be times when chainsaws are active while golf is being played. We will always give the golf staff a heads up on where to expect chainsaw activity for the day. We sometimes have contractors on the golf course too, so there may be multiple areas of work being done.

Here are a few important facts that all golfers need to know for their safety while on a golf course in the winter.

1. Never approach a staff member/contractor while they are using a chainsaw. If you need to get our attention, wait until they have completed a cut, stay a safe distance away, wave your arms or whistle to get our attention. With ear and eye protection, we may not always see you.
2. Play winter rules. If your golf ball enters an area of tree cutting, please wait for us to retrieve your golf ball. No golf will be allowed in a cutting zone.
3. We appreciate your patience as we aim to perform tree maintenance in a safe and orderly manner.
