What You Need To Know About Frost

It is the beginning of frost season. It is imperative that we wait for frost to burn off before we begin maintenance or allow play. Frost damage occurs when the frozen cells inside the plant shatter and compromise the fate of plants. Damage in the fall is always worse because the plants do not have enough time to recover as they enter the dormancy stage.

Our goal is to get players out on the course as soon as possible now that days are shorter. There are a number of variables to burning of frost. As the sun rises, this is the coldest portion of the morning since the sun is pushing all of the cold air in the atmosphere down to the surface. Once the sun can warm up the surface the frost begins to melt away. Trees and buildings can slow the melting process from casting shade and preventing the sun to melt off frost.
Waiting out the frost before your round this time of year will help the course enter the winter in much better health which leads to a more prosperous spring. The grounds staff stays in contact with the golf staff to inform you when the course is ready for play. Thanks for your cooperation.
