Cleaning Up The Mess

The golf courses were covered with debris Tuesday morning.

Just as soon as we had the golf course close to where we wanted it, Mother Nature had a curve ball for us. Monday night we had quite the storm roll through Pinehurst. Almost one inch of rain, lightning and plenty of wind. A lot of wind in fact. I have never seen the course littered with so much debris in my time here. Fortunately all of the tree pruning done each winter proved to be successful once again as there were no trees lost and mostly small branches and leaves.

Expect to see a little taller rough and some slower green speeds during the mid-week. Tuesday was a lost day to mowing and rolling as we focused on clean up. Some minor flooding on the 4th & 5th holes  slowed things as well. By Wednesday afternoon the staff will be back on a normal schedule.

We had a lightning strike that affected a few irrigation satellite boxes on the Maxwell Course. Fortunately small parts were replaced and everything is back in shape. All of the boxes have grounding for lightning protection, but nothing is 100% lightning proof.

Thursday the Maxwell Course plays host to the USGA as a local site for the US Women's Amateur. Greens will be back to normal speeds after a couple of days of drying out.

Floodwaters subsided prior to play on Tuesday.
