Bee Tree

It was a good run. This tree was given every effort for survival but it has rotted so much it is time for removal.

Some time ago an ash tree was planted directly behind the willow in anticipation for this day. So re-planting is unnecessary.

This willow had two major limbs break in the past year. It is unsafe to leave on the course.

It has been an unsightly tree with a lot of character. However, this tree is the main reason for our bee program. When we removed the hive living in the tree last year it sparked an interest in bee management. Pinehurst will be the home of its 7th bee hive on the property this year. With bees declining at a rapid rate, it is highly important that we preserve this important part of our eco-system.

As for playability, the removal of this tree opens up the landing area for the hole. It will also improve lies in the area around the tree as the turf will dramatically improve.
