Pardon The Interuption

Who knows how long the nice weather will last this fall. Cooler temperatures are trending and we are in high gear to accomplish all of the tasks to ready the course for winter. A few improvement projects are underway: leveling tees, irrigation upgrades, aerification, topdressing, leaf pick up, utility path work and fall fertilization. Please excuse us as we make our way around the property. Through all of the projects going, the golf course is still the best place to be on a nice fall day.

All of the short grass has been aerified this fall, now we are focusing on roughs and high traffic areas. You will notice all of the cart path surrounds have been completed. Next we turn to green and fairway surrounds. The cores are being left as they will be broken up by mowers and the soil is returned to the surface. Some weaker soil areas are being seeded and topdressed to improve growing conditions.

Aerifying roughs around green to break up compaction, allow oxygen into the root zone.
Fairway topdressing began this week as well. The mixture is the same as last fall, which is 50% of our normal sand mixture combined with 50% of natural compost. The compost is produced locally in Colorado and provides essential nutrients to building soil and protecting the plant for winter. We started using this process last year and the staff agrees that it was the #1 reason why we had such a successful winter last year. Mother Nature threw us an Adam Wainwright sinker ball by completely changing winter. We started with a mild and dry start, which then flipped to a long wet spring. The fairways stood up to the challenge and performed well all season. We knocked it out of the park, just like David Ortiz. (can you tell I am ready for the World Series tonight?)

Spreading 50 tons of sand and compost a day to the golf course over the next few weeks.
