Enhancing Maxwell

Most golf courses struggle with limited tee space with forward tees. This forward tee on 17 was like hitting from a top. Never a level lie and only one place to stand was the burden of this tee. Par 3 tees can quickly lose shape due to the amount of divots, but also the tee was never built to handle a large amount of play.

Playing from this location is still a challenge. A 140 yard uphill shot with a bunker protecting the front left of a severely sloped green is no piece of cake. During the process of renovation the size will expand and create a level surface. Distance will not differ, instead the tee will handle increased traffic.

This improvement is not only for the 3 & 4 cone players, though they will benefit the most. It will allow variety for all players. Golf is the only sport where the field can change every day. Variety is frequently overlooked in golf course set up, yet diversity continues to challenge golfers and pique interest. Being a creature of habit from the same location all the time can be boring. When I think about other sports, it is hard to find a comparison in regards to playing parameters. In baseball, the base paths are always 90 feet long. Football fields are 100 yards long and the basketball rim is always 10 feet from the ground.

Improvements like this continue to provide a new point of view of a great traditional golf course.
