It is that time of year where the bentgrass begins to turn color and enter dormancy. Dormancy is the plant's natural defense for winter stress and decreases the risk for winter injury. The different hues of purple depend on the many micro climates and varieties of bentgrass in one putting surface. With increased amounts of bentgrass in each green, plan on seeing this color change each fall. It's a good thing.
