Native Maintenance

Native areas on the golf course need maintenance too. This time each year they are cut to a 4 inch height and cleaned up. We mow this time of year to allow these areas to recover before hardening off for the winter. After cleaning we follow with an herbicide application to remove any weeds that have developed over the year. Herbicides work better in warmer temperatures as opposed to the fall and frosty conditions.

After the herbicide application we overseed with fescue, wheatgrass and bluegrass varieties. This provides a nice blend of aesthetic turf that can grow successfully under low water requirements. Through the fall, irrigation and fertilizer will be applied to encourage new and sustained grow in these areas, so that they become a beautiful part of our landscape again in 2014.
