5 Tee Improvements

Over the past couple of weeks we have continued our mission to level some tees on the golf course. We picked up this spring on the 5th tee.
The tee has a mixture of bentgrass, poa annua, rye grass and blue grass, it lacked consistency so we decided not to salvage the turf. Instead we began tilling the soil. After years of topdressing there is plenty of sand in the profile and removing the sod is unnecessary. Tilling the existing plant material into the soil maintains organic material for microbes to feed on and provide nutrients for the new sod.

The tee will be split into two smaller tee boxes, but the amount of tee surface will slightly increase. By removing the unplayable slope in the middle of the tee, we are returning the tee to the original design. Distances of the hole will not change. Our goal is to simply create a level teeing ground.
New sod is being placed this week. The tees will remain closed until the sod is playable. Tee markers will be placed on the forward tees in the meantime to allow proper root development before opening.
