Frost Damage

Foot traffic in the morning on grass can lead to death of the plants. You can see here a line of foot prints across 10 fairway. It is tempting to want to take a stroll along the quiet confines of a golf course.

When frost settles in early in the morning on grass it creates a very fragile plant. Though dormant, you must remember these plants are still living. The moisture in the cells of the plant freeze and form miniature crystals. When pressure is applied those cells fracture and die.

Most times the leaf blades are what takes the brunt of the damage. It becomes unsightly, uneven surface and takes a long time to recover in the spring. When the heart of the plant, otehrwise known as the crown of the plant, at the surface is compromised it leads to certain death of the plant.

Currently, the golf course is in a fragile state with the extreme dry conditions. We ask that you refrain from walking the golf course during frosty conditions to maintain optimal conditions.
