Dealing with Dry

Handwatering and water tanks has been the result of warm days this winter. We have had some small snow dustings that have been enough to keep the golf course closed, yet they have provided little moisture. At best they have keep evaporation rates lower.

When temperatures reach 50 degrees with a little wind, concerns begin to build about dessication to turfgrass. It is important to keep the water flowing to moisten the crown of the plants and return moisture into the soil for continued success.

The frost free segment of the irrigation system is being used as you can see above. Hydrants were installed at each putting green around the course. Using hydrants can keep the higher profile areas of the course hydrated. Water tanks are being used in other areas of the course.

Think snow!
