Fairway Maintenance

Fairway aerification has begun this week. We are solid tining them to relieve soil tension, reduce compaction and increase oxygen into the soil profile. We are not pulling cores this time. We will take care of that in the spring.

Topdressing follows the aerification process. We are making a slight change to the material however. This year we are using a 50/50 blend of sand and compost, instead of 100% sand.

This mature feedlot manure amends the soil with nutrients and microorganisms to boost soil health.

The compost is derived from Colorado farms and is screened enough that it does not disrupt the application process or playability. It is blended by our sand supplier for uniformity. You may notice some larger particles, they are not rocks, they just need to break down and will after a drag and traffic through the winter. You may also notice a slight earthy odor to the product which is normal.

This is a darker material which helps with attracting sun light through the colder months. Another advantage over straight sand is that it reduces the potential to scratch golf clubs over the winter.
