Incorporating new seed will not require the same efforts. About mid-September the staff will be cutting down the fescue throughout the course and cleaning the areas to prepare for winter. Once the area is cleaned; interseeding will begin. We will simply use our slit seeder, which creates a greater germination rate due to the seed to soil contact that the machine creates.
Light and frequent irrigation cycles and a little bit of fertilizer will be necessary for seed growth in the fall. A second seeding will occur in the spring, which should then lead to a greater stand of grasses for our native areas.
Crested Wheatgrass that will be incorporated into the fescue/natives areas |
Interseeding the fescue/native areas of the course may be a cause of concern to some. The initial seeding process underwent drastic changes as these areas were completely wiped out and then re-seeded.
