The Latest

2012 is without a doubt a year to remember, or quickly forget. We had an above average snowfall for Denver in the winter, but the mountains were way below average. Harriman Reservoir is finally under construction to repair the failed dam and is offline for the year. Colorado was hit with the driest March on record, along with the hottest June on record. July is looking to follow June's lead as we approach 20 straight days with temperatures in the 90's. The record is 24 straight days, set in 2008 and the forecast looks as if we will at least tie that record.

So with all these road blocks we are being put to the test with our water management skills. The silver lining this year is our ability to identify our strong and weak areas of our irrigation system and water management program.

Have you noticed little to no water in the Warrior Ditch or even coming through our ponds on 2, 3 & 4 this weekend? On Friday night, a sewer truck crashed into the Bear Creek upstream of Morrison. All water sources have been turned off to prevent contamination. We are told that water will not be turned back on until the EPA and Denver Water verify the safety of the water. We have been operating with on-site water storage, which isn't much. Today we will be pulling leased water from Soda Lakes which should get us back on track. Our best estimate is that the Bear Creek water will be back and running by tomorrow.
You really can't make this stuff up.
