Fairway Aerification

Fairway aerification begins today. This is a three week process to get around to all 27 holes. A light topdressing will follow aerification.
Aerification is a crucial step in healthy turfgrass. It allows oxygen into the rootzone for better root development. Picking up the cores removes some of the thatch and clayey soils that lie beneath the turf.

Topdressing the fairways while aerifying dilutes the amount of thatch and clay in the rootzone. Sand is a better medium for plant growth because it has greater pore spaces for water, air and nutrients. A sandy surface assists with keeping areas firmer and faster.
