Tee Aerification

This week we are aerifying tee surfaces around all 27 holes. Today we are finishing with pulling out material and beginning to sand topdress. Pulling out cores helps relieve compaction and reduce thatch build up. The sand topdressing helps to fill divots, dilute thatch and fill holes to return to healthy conditions prior to winter.
We are pulling out 1/2 inch cores at 2.5 inch spacing that calculates to just over 3% of the tee surfaces that are being removed.
On tee surfaces we aim to remove up to 10% of the surface each season. The springtime will allow us time to aerify again with the opportunity to remove more material.
Increased sand topdressing with or without core aerification will benefit soil profiles and firm tee surfaces in the future.
This time of year as the days are cooler and shorter you may have to play through some sandy tees prior to being drug into the profile. Dry sand moves best into the soil and is less disruptive to the turf. Please allow time for the sand to dry.
